## Download an icon in three steps

### Find the icon you need

Real-time search shows results as you type. Every family shares the same categories, so one search covers all of them.

### Pick the style and set the colour

Save your brand colours in Streamline and apply them to a whole set in one click, previewing before you export.

### Export as SVG or PNG

SVG stays editable in code and design tools. PNG bakes it in, ready for slides, documents, and email.

## The lightest weights in the library

Ultimate Light and Micro Line. Free and pro counts per style.

### Light and thin

The lightest weights in the library. A 1px hairline reads as refined and editorial, and needs generous spacing and larger sizes to hold.

## Where these sets get used

### Where it is the wrong choice

Core Line contributes no personality by design, so a brand that needs the icons to carry identity will not get it here. At 64px and above the stripped-back construction starts to read as sparse rather than clean.

### Dashboards that should not have a point of view

Core is the Helvetica of icons: SaaS dashboards, admin panels, developer tools and settings screens, where the icons are infrastructure and the content is the thing. It works inside any design system without competing with it.

### Platforms other people build on

If third parties ship inside your product, an opinionated icon set becomes their problem as well as yours. Core stays neutral enough that a partner brand can sit next to it without a clash.

## What a hairline buys

A 1px stroke is among the softest visual weights possible at 24px. Airy open spacing and the absence of heavy geometry produce a premium, editorial quality that heavier strokes cannot replicate.

That suits sparse interfaces with generous spacing, and it suits editorial layouts where the icons sit beside light typography. It is a deliberate register rather than a default.

## Where it fails

Ultimate Light approaches its legibility limit below 16 pixels, and it struggles on dark backgrounds, where a hairline has the least contrast to work with. An icon that is unreadable at its real size has failed, however good it looks in the design file.

The usual fix is to keep the light weight for display contexts and switch to a Regular or Bold weight from the same family for small interface sizes. The shapes match, so the switch is invisible.

## What free covers

No sign up required. Free downloads ask for attribution, a credit link wherever the icons appear, which Pro and Lifetime plans remove. That is 109,582 free icons across 34 families, with 333,032 more on Pro.

Yes, you can use them for all personal and commercial projects. Each icon, free or premium, is optimized for large-size exports, ensuring visual clarity and sharpness. So, you can avoid pixelation or blur.

## Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about this style.

### What are thin icons?

Icons drawn with a hairline stroke, typically 1px, which reads as refined and editorial rather than functional. Streamline's lightest weight is Ultimate Light, at 1px on a 24px grid.

### What size do thin icons need?

16 pixels and up, and more comfortably 20 and up. Below that a hairline has too little contrast against the background to stay legible, especially in dark mode. Use a heavier weight from the same family at small sizes.

### Do thin icons work in dark mode?

Less well than heavier weights. A 1px stroke on a dark background has minimal contrast, and anti-aliasing eats into it further. If dark mode is the primary theme, start from a Regular or Bold weight instead.

### Are these icons free to download?

Yes. 109,582 icons across 34 families are free, with no sign up required. Free downloads ask for attribution, a credit link wherever the icons appear, which [Pro and Lifetime](https://www.streamlinehq.com/pricing) plans remove. See [SVG icons](/svg-icons.md) for the format itself.
