## Connect the icons MCP in three steps

Pick your tool, paste the block, and sign in once. The icon tools are then available wherever you are already working.

### Claude

Install the official Streamline connector from the Claude directory.

#### Step 1: Add the connector

Open Streamline in the Claude directory and click Connect.

[Add to Claude](https://claude.ai/directory/connectors/streamline-icons)

**Using Claude Code?**

Run this in your terminal, then run /mcp in Claude Code and pick streamline.

```
claude mcp add --transport http streamline https://public-api.streamlinehq.com/mcp
```

#### Step 2: Sign in

Sign in with your Streamline account to authorize access.

### Cursor

Install Streamline in Cursor with one click.

#### Step 1: Add the server

Click install to open Cursor and add the Streamline MCP.

[Install in Cursor](cursor://anysphere.cursor-deeplink/mcp/install?name=streamline&config=eyJ1cmwiOiJodHRwczovL3B1YmxpYy1hcGkuc3RyZWFtbGluZWhxLmNvbS9tY3AifQ%3D%3D)

**Prefer to add it manually?**

Add this to your \~/.cursor/mcp.json file.

```
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "streamline": {
      "url": "https://public-api.streamlinehq.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

#### Step 2: Sign in

Sign in with your Streamline account to authorize access.

### ChatGPT

In ChatGPT, go to Settings, then Plugins, then MCPs, and click Add Server. Fill the form with these three values.

#### Step 1: Fill the form

Name, type, and URL, exactly as below.

```
Name  Streamline
Type  Streamable HTTP
URL   https://public-api.streamlinehq.com/mcp
```

#### Step 2: Save and authenticate

Click Save, then click Authenticate and follow the steps.

### Antigravity

The Antigravity CLI and the Antigravity IDE read one config file, so you set this up once and both pick it up.

#### Step 1: Add the config

Put this in \~/.gemini/config/mcp\_config.json. A headers block is unnecessary, because Streamline supports dynamic client registration and Antigravity discovers the OAuth endpoints on its own.

```
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "streamline": {
      "serverUrl": "https://public-api.streamlinehq.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

#### Step 2: Authenticate

Open Agent Settings, go to the Customizations tab, and click Authenticate next to streamline. Sign in, then copy the authorization code back into the settings panel and click Submit.

### Others

Most MCP-compatible clients accept a JSON configuration block. Streamline supports dynamic client registration, so there are no client credentials to configure.

#### Step 1: Add the configuration

The first time the client connects it opens your browser to sign in and authorize access.

```
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "streamlineMCPServer": {
      "name": "Streamline MCP Server",
      "url": "https://public-api.streamlinehq.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

#### Step 2: Use an API key if the client has no OAuth

Add your Streamline API key as a header instead, replacing YOUR\_API\_KEY\_HERE.

```
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "streamlineMCPServer": {
      "name": "Streamline MCP Server",
      "url": "https://public-api.streamlinehq.com/mcp",
      "headers": {
        "X-API-Key": "YOUR_API_KEY_HERE"
      }
    }
  }
}
```

To confirm any of them connected, ask your tool to search for a dog icon. The results should come back from Streamline.

## Pull an icon in three steps

### Describe What You Need

Ask in plain words and the server searches the library. Concrete nouns land better than abstractions, so a padlock beats security.

### Pick SVG or PNG

SVG keeps the shape editable and scales to any size. PNG drops straight into tools that will not take a vector.

### Place It In The Build

The file comes back sized and colored to the request, ready to sit in the interface you are already writing.

## Core is the Helvetica of icons

998 free, 5,615 pro icons per style, across 8 styles. Every style sits on the same grid, so swapping one for another leaves the layout alone.

## What you can do with it

### More Than Icons

The same MCP reaches illustrations, elements, and emoji. You ask for them the same way you ask for an icon.

### Icons That Match

Ask for icons from one set and they all match. Light or dark, every screen reads the same.

## Demos built with MCP

Small things an AI made end to end, with every asset searched and downloaded through the MCP instead of pasted in by hand.

### Pixel Drop

A small arcade game: catch stars and coins with the rocket, avoid bugs and skulls. Tap the screen to play, then move with the arrow keys or drag.

Built by Claude Fable 5.1 with the Streamline MCP. Every sprite comes from the Pixel icon set.

### Emoji Chat

A messenger with its own emoji keyboard. Tap the smiley to browse, or type a colon and a word, like :fire, to drop one in mid-sentence.

Built by Claude Opus 5.5 with the Streamline MCP. Every emoji comes from the Streamline Emoji set.

[Open the chat on its own page](https://design.streamlinehq.com/mcp-demos/emoji-chat)

### Style Switcher

One app, 32 icon styles. Pick a family and a style and every icon in the UI swaps in place, because each one exists under the same name in every style.

Built by Claude Opus 5.5 with the Streamline MCP. Icons from the free Core, Sharp, Flex, and Plump sets.

## What An Icons MCP Server Is

Think of it as a standard connection between an AI tool and an outside service. Streamline's is hosted, so one terminal command adds it and a browser sign-in authenticates it.

Hosting it this way means there is no package to keep updated on your machine, and the tool list stays current on Streamline's side. Most icon MCP servers instead run as a local Node process you install and maintain.

## Where A Wrapper Wins

Most icon MCP servers wrap open-source collections, and the reach is real. For a brand logo or a niche glyph, a wrapper will often have something when a single studio does not.

The trade is consistency. Icons from many authors rarely share a grid, a stroke weight, or a corner radius, and a screen built from a dozen sources shows it.

## Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about connecting and using the icons MCP.

### What is an icons MCP server?

A connection that lets an AI tool search an icon library and download files without a browser tab. Streamline's runs as a hosted endpoint, so your editor talks to it over HTTPS.

### How do I connect it?

Pick your tool in the steps above and paste the block it gives you, then sign in through the browser when prompted. The same instructions live on [streamlinehq.com/mcp](https://www.streamlinehq.com/mcp).

### Which AI tools does it work with?

Claude Code, Claude connectors, Cursor, ChatGPT, and Antigravity, among others. For Cursor specifically, see [icons for Cursor](/icons-for-cursor.md).

### Is the icons MCP free?

The free tier reaches every free set through the same MCP, 109,582 icons across 34 families. Pro widens it to the full library.

### Can I use the icons commercially?

Yes. Streamline's own free sets ask for attribution, a credit link wherever the icons appear, and Pro removes that. The open-source sets hosted here keep their own upstream licences, so check the set's terms before you ship.

### What formats and sizes come back?

SVG or PNG, at any size from 1 to 4096 pixels. The same call takes colors, a background color, and a stroke width, so the file arrives ready to place.

### Can I pull more than icons?

Yes. The same MCP reaches illustrations, elements, and emoji.

### Does it always pick the right icon?

Not always. The agent chooses from whatever the search returns, so a vague request gets a near match. Naming the set or the style narrows the field before it picks.

### Is there an API as well?

Yes. The same library is available over a REST API with its own keys, limits, and pricing, documented at [streamlinehq.com/api](https://home.streamlinehq.com/api).
