## Make a Twitch badge in three steps

### Pick a shape that survives 18px

Badges render at 18 pixels in chat. Simple, bold silhouettes read there. Detailed artwork does not.

### Export PNG at each required size

Badges at 18, 36 and 72\. Emotes at 28, 56 and 112\. Transparent PNG, under 25KB each.

### Upload to the creator dashboard

Badges are static PNG only. Emotes can be animated GIF as well, if you want one that moves.

## Plump, chunky enough for 18 pixels

Inspired by cartoons. Free and pro counts per style.

## Where Plump gets used

### A channel with a look of its own

Plump is 100% cute, inspired by animated cartoons, with subtle curves and chunky shapes. Swords, shields, hearts and potions read instantly at badge size, which is why a gaming channel tends to end up here.

## Pixel, drawn on the grid

### Pixel

Pixel will bring you back to the 80s. Every icon sits on an 8-bit grid, drawn square by square. 662 free icons, open source.

## The smallest size is the one that decides

Twitch takes every badge at 18, 36 and 72 pixels, and every emote at 28, 56 and 112\. Designers pick artwork at the largest size and discover the problem at the smallest, where a detailed illustration collapses into a smudge beside a username.

An icon that is unreadable at its real size has failed, however good it looks in the design file. Test at 18 pixels first, and let that decide the shape. Solid styles carry further than line styles at that size, because a filled silhouette survives being shrunk in a way an outline does not.

## A set of badges that belong together

Sub badges arrive in tiers, and they get added over months as a channel grows. Pulling each one from a different source is how a badge row ends up looking like a collection rather than a set. Taking them all from one family fixes it before it starts.

No sign up required. Free downloads ask for attribution, a credit link wherever the icons appear, which for a stream usually means a panel or the description. Pro and Lifetime plans remove it. 109,582 free icons across 34 families, with 333,032 more on Pro.

## Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about Twitch badges, emotes and panels.

### What size are Twitch sub badges and emotes?

Sub badges are 18, 36 and 72 pixels, static PNG with transparency, under 25KB each. Emotes are 28, 56 and 112 pixels, PNG under 25KB, and emotes can also be animated GIF. All three sizes are required at upload, so export each one rather than letting Twitch scale a single file.

### How do I make a sub badge from an icon?

Pick a bold, simple shape, set the color, and export PNG at 72 pixels, then 36, then 18\. Check the 18 first: if you cannot tell what it is at that size, no amount of detail at 72 will save it. Keep the artwork centred with a little breathing room, since badges sit inline with text.

### Which icon style works best at badge size?

Solid. Lines replaced with filled shapes for bolder, instantly recognizable icons, ideal where quick recognition is crucial. [Plump Solid](https://www.streamlinehq.com/icons/plump-solid-free) is chunky enough to hold at 18 pixels, and [Pixel](https://www.streamlinehq.com/icons/pixel) is drawn on a pixel grid, so it stays crisp at small sizes rather than fighting them.

### Can I use these icons for a monetised channel?

Yes, on both tiers. The free tier asks for attribution, a credit link wherever the icons appear, which on a stream usually means a panel or a link in the description. [Pro and Lifetime](https://www.streamlinehq.com/pricing) remove that requirement.

### What about panel images?

Twitch caps panel display at 320 pixels wide, and the height follows your content, commonly 100 to 160 pixels. That is a comfortable size for an icon next to a heading, so panels are the one Twitch asset where you can use detail. See [PNG icons](/png-icons.md) for export guidance.
