## Get an icon into Power BI in three steps

### Find the icon you need

Real-time search across every family. Dashboards usually want the same twenty or so: trends, filters, alerts, status.

### Export SVG or PNG

SVG for measures and conditional icons. PNG for image slots, backgrounds, and anywhere a file is simpler than a formula.

### Paste it into your report

Wrap the SVG in a DAX measure, or drop the PNG straight in. Set the data category to Image URL either way.

## Core, built for dashboard sizes

A 14px grid across 8 styles. Free and pro counts per style.

### Core

Core is the Helvetica of icons, stripped to its essential form with generous spacing. 998 free icons across 8 styles.

## Where Core gets used

### Light theme and dark, one set of icons

The same Core tree rendered both ways. Report themes get switched late and often, and a line icon set adapts to both without a second export.

## Micro, for the densest tables

A 10px grid, the smallest in any commercial icon set.

### Micro

Micro is built on a tiny 10px grid, with no room for unnecessary detail. Every stroke serves legibility. 200 free icons across 2 styles.

* **Micro Line**: [200 free icons](https://www.streamlinehq.com/icons/micro-line-free), [2,035 pro icons](https://www.streamlinehq.com/icons/micro-line)
* **Micro Solid**: [200 free icons](https://www.streamlinehq.com/icons/micro-solid-free), [2,035 pro icons](https://www.streamlinehq.com/icons/micro-solid)

## Where Micro gets used

### Built to survive being small

Micro is an exceptional set of icons specifically designed to excel at very small sizes. In a matrix with twelve rows on screen, an icon competes with the row height rather than the page.

## Ultimate, for everything else

The encyclopedia, for the subjects a report throws up once a year.

### Ultimate

1,000 free icons per set across 5 styles. Encyclopedic coverage, from common to rare icons. A neutral style that fits most use cases.

* **Ultimate Light**: [1,000 free icons](https://www.streamlinehq.com/icons/ultimate-light-free), [17,683 pro icons](https://www.streamlinehq.com/icons/streamline-light)

* **Ultimate Duotone**: [1,000 free icons](https://www.streamlinehq.com/icons/ultimate-duotone-free), [10,935 pro icons](https://www.streamlinehq.com/icons/streamline-duotone)

## Where Ultimate gets used

### The subject nobody planned for

Ultimate covers pretty much every use case you can imagine. A quarterly report will ask for an icon no dashboard library thought to draw, which is the case a deep set is bought for.

## Why SVG is the format that pays off in Power BI

A PNG in a report is fixed. An SVG written into a DAX measure is not: the same measure can return a different color, a different arrow, or a different shape depending on the row it lands on. That is how conditional status icons get built without shipping twenty image files.

Each icon, free or premium, is optimized for large-size exports, ensuring visual clarity and sharpness. So, you can avoid pixelation or blur. That matters when a report gets exported to PDF or opened on a high-density screen.

## Sized for dashboards, not for posters

Core is built on a 14px grid and Micro on a 10px grid, the smallest grid ever seen in a commercial icon set. In a table or a KPI card an icon is rarely larger than 16 or 20 pixels, and an icon drawn on a 24px grid loses its detail on the way down.

Free. No sign up required. Free downloads ask for attribution, a credit link wherever the icons appear, which Pro and Lifetime plans remove. That covers 109,582 free icons across 34 families, with 333,032 more on Pro.

## Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about using icons in Power BI.

### How do I add a custom icon to a Power BI report?

Two routes. For a static icon, export a PNG and use it in an image slot. For an icon that reacts to your data, put the SVG inside a DAX measure as a string beginning `data:image/svg+xml;utf8,` and set the field's data category to Image URL. Power BI then renders the measure as an image in tables, matrices, and cards.

### Why is my SVG not rendering in Power BI?

Usually quoting or escaping. A DAX string is wrapped in double quotes, so the attributes inside the SVG have to use single quotes instead. A raw `#` in a hex color ends the data URI early, so write `%23` in its place. If the icon still fails, base64 encoding is more reliable than utf8, at the cost of a much longer string.

### Which icon set works best for dashboards?

[Core](https://www.streamlinehq.com/icons/core-line-free) is the safe default, built on a 14px grid across 8 styles and neutral enough to disappear into a report. [Micro](https://www.streamlinehq.com/icons/micro-line-free) goes smaller still on a 10px grid, for icons sitting inline in a dense table. See [16x16 icons](/16x16-icons.md) for why the grid matters at that size.

### Can I recolor icons to match my report theme?

Yes, and in a measure you can do it conditionally. Save your theme colors in Streamline and apply them to a whole set in one click before exporting, or set the stroke and fill directly in the SVG string so a value above target renders green and one below renders red.

### Are these icons free to use in a company report?

Yes, on both tiers. The free tier asks for attribution, a credit link wherever the icons appear. [Pro and Lifetime](https://www.streamlinehq.com/pricing) remove that requirement, which is what most internal and customer-facing reporting needs.
