## Get an icon in three steps

### Find a starting point

Real-time search across every family. Starting from a drawn icon is faster than starting from a blank canvas.

### Download the SVG

SVG is Inkscape's native format, so there is no import step and nothing is converted on the way in.

### Edit the paths directly

Node editing, boolean operations, stroke to path. The icon is ordinary vector artwork once it is open.

## Ultimate

The encyclopedia. Free and pro counts per style.

### Ultimate

1,000 free icons per set across 5 styles. Encyclopedic coverage, from common to rare icons. A neutral style that fits most use cases.

## Where Ultimate gets used

### Where it is the wrong choice

Ultimate is rounded, which reads as approachable rather than precise. Medical devices, aerospace and audit software usually want sharp geometry, because austerity is the trust signal there. Below 14px it also gives way to a family drawn on a smaller grid.

### One system across every product surface

Ultimate is the safest default when a single icon set has to cover navigation, settings, onboarding and empty states without imposing a personality. Over 16,500 icons means coverage stops being the thing that blocks a release.

### Design systems serving several teams

Where a component library is used by more than one product team, mixing sources is the failure mode. Ultimate is built to be the one place everybody pulls from, so the icons still match two years and four teams later.

## Sharp

## Where Sharp gets used

### Where it is the wrong choice

Sharp and Core cannot share a component. Angular against rounded inside the same UI chrome is a contradiction no amount of spacing resolves, so pick one corner language per interface.

### Technical products that signal precision

Sharp is pure geometry and bold structure, inspired by brutalist architecture and very geometric typefaces. It suits engineering tools, dark UI, gaming interfaces and Web3, where softness would read as the wrong kind of friendly.

### Small sizes and strong hierarchy

Sharp Solid holds recognisability at 12 to 16 pixels better than curved equivalents, because angular silhouettes keep their corners when the pixel count runs out. Tab bars, badges and status indicators are where that pays.

## Guidance

366 free icons drawn for signage and wayfinding.

### Guidance

Signage and wayfinding symbols, built for clear directional systems. 366 free icons, open source under Creative Commons BY 4.0.

* **Guidance**: [366 free icons](https://www.streamlinehq.com/icons/guidance)

## Where Guidance gets used

### Signage and physical wayfinding

Guidance is drawn for venue and transit navigation: airports, arenas, hospitals, and the companion apps that go with them. It is the set to reach for when an icon has to work on a wall as well as a screen.

### Accessibility and civic products

Universal, legally legible pictograms matter in healthcare, government and compliance documentation, where the icon is part of meeting a standard rather than part of the brand.

## No import, no conversion, no loss

Inkscape works in SVG natively, which makes it the shortest path between a downloaded icon and an edited one. There is no importer deciding what to keep, and the paths you see are the paths that were drawn.

That matters when you are adapting rather than using. Changing a corner radius, merging two icons, or extending a set with one the library does not have all start from having the real geometry.

## Extending a set without breaking it

Drawing one new icon to sit beside a hundred existing ones is harder than it looks, because the eye catches a mismatched stroke weight or corner radius immediately. Opening an existing icon from the same family gives you the construction rules for free.

Can't find an asset? We'll draw it for free, with fast turnaround. The condition: as long as it can help more than one person.

## Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about using these icons.

### Can I edit Streamline icons in Inkscape?

Yes. Every icon downloads as an SVG, which is Inkscape's native format, so it opens directly with no import step. Node editing, boolean operations and stroke-to-path all work as they would on artwork drawn in Inkscape.

### How do I change the stroke weight?

Streamline lets you adjust line thickness before exporting, which is the simpler route. In Inkscape, select the paths and change the stroke width, or use Stroke to Path first if you need the outline as a filled shape.

### What if the icon I need does not exist?

Streamline draws custom icons free, with fast turnaround, as long as the request can help more than one person. That is usually faster and more consistent than drawing it yourself beside an existing set.

### Are these icons free to use commercially?

Yes, on both tiers. 109,582 icons across 34 families are free, with no sign up required, and the free tier asks for attribution, a credit link wherever the icons appear. [Pro and Lifetime](https://www.streamlinehq.com/pricing) remove that and unlock 333,032 pro icons. See [SVG icons](/svg-icons.md) for the format itself.
