For a screen document or an internal layout that is the whole story, and SVG is the lighter file to manage. Print is where it gets particular. SVG is an RGB format and carries no color profile, so a commercial printer cannot convert it to CMYK with any confidence. Export the same icon as PDF instead and the problem disappears.
