## Connect Cursor in three steps

### Open Tools & MCPs

In Cursor, go to Cursor Settings, open Tools & MCPs, then click New MCP Server.

### Add the Server

Add the streamlineMCPServer configuration, pointing at the Streamline MCP URL. There is no API key to paste.

### Log In and Test

The server shows as needing login. Click Login, sign in to Streamline, and grant access. Then ask Cursor for a dog icon.

## Fetching an icon, with the MCP and without

The library is the same either way. What changes is how many steps sit between wanting an icon and having it in the project.

| | Without the MCP | With the MCP |
| -------------------- | ------------------------------------------ | -------------------------------------- |
| Finding an icon | Open a browser tab and search the site | Ask for it in the Cursor chat |
| Getting the file | Download it, then move it into the project | Comes back in the format you asked for |
| Size, color, stroke | Change it after the download | Ask for it when you ask for the icon |
| Changing style later | Search and download all over again | Same connection reaches every set |
| Signing in | Sign in to the website each time | OAuth once, Cursor refreshes the token |

## What the connection changes

### No Tab Switching Mid-Build

Ask for the icon while you are writing the component. The MCP searches the library and hands the file back without you leaving the editor.

### One Connection, The Whole Library

The same connection reaches every Streamline set, so you can start in one style and switch later without changing how you fetch assets.

## What the MCP Actually Does

MCP is an open protocol that standardizes how applications give context to large language models. It lets a tool like Cursor connect to an outside service, use its tools, and pull data back.

Streamline's server puts the library behind that connection. You can search icons, illustrations, emojis, and elements, then download them as PNG or SVG with the size, colors, background, and stroke you asked for.

## Why It Matters In An Editor

Looking for an icon means leaving the editor, searching a site, downloading a file, and moving it into the project. Every one of those steps is a break in concentration, and none of them is the work.

Asking for the icon where you are already typing removes the round trip. The file arrives in the project, in the format you asked for, and you keep going.

## Not Just Cursor

The same server connects to Claude Code, Claude connectors, ChatGPT through Codex, and Antigravity. Setup differs per tool, and each one has its own page in the Streamline MCP docs.

That matters if your team does not all use the same editor. One account and one library, reachable from whichever tool each person prefers.

## Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about connecting Cursor to the Streamline MCP.

### How do I add Streamline icons to Cursor?

Go to Cursor Settings, open Tools & MCPs, and click New MCP Server. Add the `streamlineMCPServer` configuration, then click Login and sign in to Streamline. The exact configuration is on the [Cursor setup page](https://docs.streamlinehq.com/reference/cursor).

### Do I need an API key?

No. There is no API key to paste. You sign in with OAuth through the browser, and Cursor stores and refreshes the token for you.

### How do I know it connected?

Ask Cursor to search for a dog icon. If the connection is live, the results come back from Streamline.

### What can I pull through the MCP?

Icons, illustrations, emojis, and elements. You can also retrieve details about a specific icon, and download in PNG or SVG with customization options for size, colors, background, and stroke.

### Which other AI tools does the MCP work with?

Claude Code, Claude connectors, ChatGPT through Codex, and Antigravity, alongside Cursor.

### Do I need a paid plan?

Access through the Public API and the MCP Server is included with Pro plans, up to 1,000 assets a week. See [the pricing page](https://www.streamlinehq.com/pricing) for current plan details.

### Where do I get help if it will not connect?

Streamline runs a public Slack channel for MCP support, where you can ask the team building it. It is linked from the [MCP overview](https://docs.streamlinehq.com/reference/mcp).
