## Get an icon in three steps

### Pick a shape that reads on a phone

Most CapCut edits are watched on a small screen while scrolling. Bold, simple silhouettes survive that.

### Export a large transparent PNG

PNG keeps the background transparent so the footage shows through. Export well above the size you will place it at.

### Drop it on the timeline

Add it as an overlay above your main clip, then set position, size and duration like any other element.

## Where Plump gets used

### Brands that want to feel welcoming

Plump is 100% cute, inspired by animated cartoons, with subtle curves and chunky shapes. It suits consumer apps, children's education and any product whose brief is warmth rather than authority.

### Display sizes and onboarding

Plump Flat works from roughly 40px upward, in product tours, feature explainers and empty states, where an icon is doing the job of a small illustration.

## Core

The Helvetica of icons, on a 14px grid. Free and pro counts per style.

## Where Core gets used

### Where it is the wrong choice

Core Line contributes no personality by design, so a brand that needs the icons to carry identity will not get it here. At 64px and above the stripped-back construction starts to read as sparse rather than clean.

### Dashboards that should not have a point of view

Core is the Helvetica of icons: SaaS dashboards, admin panels, developer tools and settings screens, where the icons are infrastructure and the content is the thing. It works inside any design system without competing with it.

### Platforms other people build on

If third parties ship inside your product, an opinionated icon set becomes their problem as well as yours. Core stays neutral enough that a partner brand can sit next to it without a clash.

## Pixel

662 icons, free and open source.

### Pixel

Pixel will bring you back to the 80s. Every icon sits on an 8-bit grid, drawn square by square. 662 free icons, open source.

* **Pixel**: [662 free icons](https://www.streamlinehq.com/icons/pixel)

## Where Pixel gets used

### Retro and gaming contexts

Pixel is nostalgic and retro, inspired by the work of Susan Kare. Drawn on a pixel grid, it is the one style that gains something from being shown small rather than losing to it.

## Transparency is the whole requirement

A PNG with a transparent background lets the video below show through, which is what makes an icon an overlay rather than a sticker on a white square. Every Streamline PNG exports with transparency by default.

The other half is resolution. Video gets scaled, cropped and re-encoded, so export several times larger than the placed size and let CapCut scale down. Each icon is optimized for large-size exports, so you can avoid pixelation or blur.

## Icons carry meaning faster than text on a short edit

A viewer decides in a second or two. An icon lands before a caption is read, which is why short-form editing leans on them for steps, warnings, counts and calls to action.

Taking them from one family keeps a channel recognisable across videos, the same way a consistent font does.

## Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about using these icons.

### How do I add an icon to a CapCut video?

Export the icon as a transparent PNG, import it, and drag it onto the timeline above your main clip as an overlay. From there you can set its position, size and duration, and animate it like any other element.

### What format do CapCut overlays need?

PNG with a transparent background, so the footage shows through behind the icon. SVG is not a video format, so export raster for CapCut even though SVG is the better file everywhere else.

### What size should I export?

Well above the size you will place it. Video is re-encoded and often re-cropped, so starting large protects the edges. Exporting at the final on-screen size is what produces soft icons in a finished video.

### Are these icons free to use commercially?

Yes, on both tiers. 109,582 icons across 34 families are free, with no sign up required, and the free tier asks for attribution, a credit link wherever the icons appear. [Pro and Lifetime](https://www.streamlinehq.com/pricing) remove that and unlock 333,032 pro icons. See [SVG icons](/svg-icons.md) for the format itself.
