## Find a cool icon set in three easy steps

### Pick a Style With Character

Neon for electric two-color, Pop for saturated color, Gradient for depth, Pixel for 8-bit, Freehand for hand-drawn.

### Make the Color Yours

Neon and Gradient take custom colors, so the style stays but the palette becomes your brand.

### Export as SVG or PNG

SVG keeps everything editable. PNG bakes it in, ready for a post or a deck.

## Neon, Pop, and Gradient: personality from color

## What you get with every set

### Recolor Without Losing the Style

A two-color Neon icon keeps its structure when you swap the palette, so it can match a brand without turning into a different icon.

### One Library, Many Registers

The expressive styles sit in the same library as the neutral ones, on the same grids, so a project can shift tone without switching source.

## What Makes an Icon Cool

Most icon sets aim to disappear. A cool icon does the opposite: it has enough character that someone notices it, which is what you want on a landing page, an app store screenshot, or a social post.

That character usually comes from color or construction. Neon and Gradient get it from color. Pixel, Cyber, and Freehand get it from how the shape itself is drawn.

## Where Cool Backfires

An expressive icon competes for attention, which is the point in marketing and a problem in an interface. A dense toolbar full of gradient icons is harder to scan than the same toolbar in one flat color.

The usual split is to use the expressive style where it is doing the selling, and a neutral one where the icon is doing a job.

## Styles With the Most Personality

Neon uses two customizable colors for an electric look. Pop is saturated and graphic. Gradient fills the shape with a full spectrum, and reads best at larger sizes.

Away from color, Pixel is drawn on an 8-bit grid, Cyber uses only straight lines and sharp angles, and Freehand looks drawn by hand because it was.

## Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about expressive icon styles.

### What are cool icons?

Cool icons are sets with visible personality rather than a neutral interface look: electric two-color Neon, saturated Pop, full-spectrum Gradient, 8-bit Pixel, sci-fi Cyber, and hand-drawn Freehand.

### Where can I download cool icons?

Visit [streamlinehq.com/icons](https://www.streamlinehq.com/icons) and filter by style, or start from the Neon, Pop, and Gradient sets listed on this page.

### Are cool icons free?

Yes, if you pick a free-tier set. Streamline has 109,582 free icons across 34 families, with 333,032 more on Pro.

### Can I change the colors?

Yes. Neon takes two customizable colors and Gradient can be recolored too, so the style holds while the palette matches your brand.

### Should I use expressive icons in an interface?

Sparingly. They work well on landing pages, app store graphics, and social posts. In a dense toolbar or navigation bar, a neutral single-color style is easier to scan.

### Which cool style should I start with?

Neon if you want energy without changing the shapes, Pop for flat saturated color, and [Pixel or Cyber](/retro-icons.md) if you want the construction itself to carry the character.
